| パリの三大宗教で日本人書家が平和揮毫を行う快挙！ |
令和元年8月24日から27日にかけて、パリで日本人書家が平和揮毫を行いました。会場はパリ国際大学都市日本館、グランド・シナゴーグ・ド・パリ(ユダヤ教)、サン・シュルピス教会(キリスト教)、サン・ルイ・アン・リル教会(キリスト教)、グランド・モスケ・ド・パリ(イスラム教)の５箇所です。
パリの三大宗教を結ぶ書家による平和揮毫は、前例のない斬新な企画であったため、各宗教の関係者たちは特別な計らいをして下さいました。その内容は以下の通りです。
A Historic Feat: Japanese Calligrapher Performs Peace Calligraphy at Three
Major Religious Sites in Paris
From August 24 to 27, 2019 (Reiwa 1), a Japanese calligrapher carried out peace calligraphy sessions in Paris. The venues included the Maison du Japon at the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris, the Grand Synagogue of Paris (Judaism), the Church of Saint-Sulpice (Christianity), the Church of Saint-Louis-en-l’Île (Christianity), and the Grand Mosque of Paris (Islam).
This unprecedented initiative—uniting the three major religions in Paris through the art of Japanese calligraphy—was an innovative and symbolic act for peace. In response, representatives from each religion extended special courtesies and support. The details are as follows: |

8月25日。サン・シュルピス教会(キリスト教)は、ノートルダム大聖堂に次ぐ、パリで最も大きなキリスト教会で、映画「ダビンチ・コード」の舞台にもなりました。記憶に新しいところでは今年9月30日に、シラク元仏大統領の国葬が行われました。Père Lacroix神父は他用のため、立ち合えずに残念がっておられましたが、その代わりに普段は閉じられている正面扉を特別に開けて、教会内の最も神聖な場所に向かって、揮毫できるようにしていただきました。
August 25 – The Church of Saint-Sulpice (Christianity) is the second largest Christian church in Paris, following the Notre-Dame Cathedral. It is also known as one of the key locations featured in the film The Da Vinci Code. More recently, on September 30 of this year, it hosted the state funeral of former French President Jacques Chirac.
Although Father Lacroix was unable to attend due to other commitments and expressed his regret, he made a special arrangement on our behalf: the normally closed main doors of the church were opened especially for us, allowing the calligraphy to be performed facing the most sacred part of the sanctuary.

8月26日。グランド・シナゴーグ・ド・パリ(ユダヤ教)は、「グランド」という名がつくように、フランスで最も大きなユダヤ教施設です。ここではユダヤ教徒に限らず、フランス国民の間でも著名なシナゴーグのラビ、Moshe SEBBAG氏が揮毫に先立って挨拶をして下さいました。そして、サン・シュルピス教会と同様に、祭壇の真正面に揮毫場所を設定して下さいました。こちらのシナゴーグは他の宗教施設と異なり、テロ対策のため機関銃を持った軍隊が、15分おきに巡回する厳戒態勢の中での平和揮毫となりました。また、終わった後には書道体験を行い、交流を深めました。
August 26 – As its name suggests, the Grand Synagogue of Paris (Judaism) is the largest Jewish place of worship in France. Prior to the calligraphy performance, the esteemed Rabbi Moshe SEBBAG—well known not only among the Jewish community but also widely recognized across France—graciously delivered a greeting.
As with the Church of Saint-Sulpice, the calligraphy was performed directly facing the main altar, a gesture of deep respect and hospitality. Unlike the other religious sites, however, this synagogue operated under strict security due to terrorism concerns, with armed military personnel patrolling every 15 minutes. Despite the tense environment, the peace calligraphy was carried out successfully. Following the session, a hands-on calligraphy experience was offered, deepening cultural exchange and mutual understanding.

8月27日。グランド・モスケ・ド・パリ(イスラム教)も、「グランド」という名がつくように、フランスで最も大きなイスラム教施設です。ここでもフランス国民の間で著名なイスラム教のチェアマン、Dalil BOUBAKEUR氏と面談し、揮毫にも立ち合っていただきました。
August 27 – As its name suggests, the Grand Mosque of Paris (Islam) is the largest Islamic place of worship in France. There, we had the honor of meeting with Dr. Dalil BOUBAKEUR, a highly respected figure among both the Muslim community and the French public. He graciously attended the calligraphy session and observed the performance in person.

そして、サン・ルイ・アン・リル教会(キリスト教)は、パリ発祥の地とされるサン・ルイ島の最高級住宅街にある教会です。
The Church of Saint-Louis-en-l’Île (Christianity) is located in one of
the most prestigious residential areas on Saint-Louis Island, which is
considered the birthplace of Paris. |

各宗教施設では日本の「和の精神」と共に、それぞれの宗教の教えを揮毫しました。日本人書家が自分たちの宗教の教えを、揮毫したことに現地では大変感激されました。
このイベント「世界平和の祈りinパリ」は昨年から開催。今年が第2回目です。第1回は日本人として不戦の誓いを新たにするために、日本の終戦記念日である8月15日を軸に開催（イスラム教モスクのみで開催）。第2回の今年は「フランス人権宣言」に敬意を表すため、それが採択された8月26日を軸に開催しました（三大宗教で実現）。
そして、このたびの「世界平和の祈りinパリ」のオープニングとして、パリ国際大学都市日本館で松見母娘（小学生と中学生）が、世界平和と仏教思想「色即是空」を揮毫しました。
At each religious site, teachings from the respective faiths were expressed through calligraphy, along with the Japanese spirit of Wa (harmony). Local participants were deeply moved that a Japanese calligrapher would inscribe the sacred teachings of their own religion.
The event, titled “Prayer for World Peace in Paris,” began last year and this year marked its second edition. The first event was held around August 15—Japan’s day of remembrance for the end of World War II—as a reaffirmation of Japan’s vow for peace, and took place exclusively at an Islamic mosque. The second edition, held this year, centered around August 26 to honor the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen in France, and was realized with the cooperation of all three major religions.
As the opening of this year’s “Prayer for World Peace in Paris,” a mother and daughter—an elementary and junior high school student—performed calligraphy at the Maison du Japon, Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris, inscribing a message for world peace and the Buddhist teaching “Shikisokuzekū” (Form is Emptiness). |

第3回となる来年は各宗教施設での平和揮毫に加えて、パリ国際大学都市日本館に、三大宗教の関係者を招いて、それぞれの宗教の教えを揮毫し、親善と融和を目的に開催する計画を立てています。
For the third edition next year, in addition to peace calligraphy at each
religious site, we are planning to host a special event at the Maison du
Japon in the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris. Religious leaders
from the three major faiths will be invited to inscribe teachings from
their respective religions, with the aim of promoting goodwill and harmony.
